Started in 1970 by the matriarch of the family, Nurzakhanu Akberali Manji together with her husband Akberali Habib Manji, the family first ventured into baking. After selling baked products from home, they managed to get a business license in 1970 to operate the first proper bakery in Port Reitz, Mombasa.
In 1967, a home-based baking venture began after its founder learned the craft — a humble beginning that laid the foundation for a family-run bakery business. In 1970, the operation was officially licensed under the name Hizo Bakery in Port Reitz, Mombasa.
At a young age, the second generation joined the family business, marking the beginning of new leadership. They quickly assumed key roles in operations and expansion—managing bakeries in Malindi and Voi, and driving early growth through dedication and innovation.
In 1985, the Supa Loaf brand and “Baba Supa” logo were introduced, giving the bakery a distinct national identity. That same year, a new bakery was established in Nairobi,a significant step in the company’s expansion.
Mibisco was established as a specialized division focused on biscuits. Over the years, it has grown to produce a wide range of cakes, pastries, and confectionery, significantly expanding the group’s product portfolio.
The Akberali & Nurzakhanu Manji Charitable Trust was founded to formalize the family’s commitment to community service.
Established in Nairobi as Mini Group’s real estate arm, Trident Estates quickly became a trusted developer.
